IBM SmartCloud Enterprise with free choice of location for German customers

With SmartCloud Enterprise + (SCE +), IBM introduces a new generation of comprehensive cloud services for productive applications with Service Level Agreement (SLA). The solution was specifically designed to support mission-critical operations.

For example, SCE + offers cloud- based ITIL processes such as ImageLifecycle Management with selectable SLAs in Germany as well. German customers also benefit from the fact that SCE + is now also available at the IBM data center in Ehningen. This allows sensitive data to remain in the country and all security and compliance requirements must be met.

Individual service level agreement

As of May 2010, IBM SmartCloud Enterprise (SCE) is available. SCE is a highly virtualized and scalable infrastructure that can be used as a shared delivery model with standardized, limited service level agreements (SLAs) through a web portal. In contrast, SmartCloud Enterprise + is now a fully managed and hosted Infrastructure-as-a-Service solution with appropriately defined SLAs that includes all of the individually required services, down to the application level and the productive workloads.

The significant added value is achieved through ITIL-based managed services with guaranteed SLAs of virtual entities beyond the hypervisor. This is new in that most cloud services available on the market only guarantee one service up to the hypervisor. Mostly, service management is left to the customer, or ad-hoc services are offered, but these are often insufficient for mission-critical applications such as SAP operations.

The SCE + infrastructure and service are designed to run productive applications to ensure high availability and maximum security at all times. To comply with EU privacy and compliance regulations, customers can also opt for IBM's Delivery Service from an EU country.

Global as local

The SCE + platform can also be optimized for enterprise-specific workloads and specific security, performance, and business- critical requirements . The pricing model is based on the selected system sizes for the IaaS layer as well as the SLAs and the additional managed services. Billing takes place on a monthly basis. Activation and deactivation of services is possible at any time via the portal.

In particular, the German customers benefit from the possibility that SCE + in addition to the IBM data center in Raleigh (USA) in the data center Ehningen is available. This allows, for example, sensitive data to remain in the respective country. In general, the location of the cloud center should be freely selectable. As a result, IBM is driving the roll out of SCE + at full speed worldwide, allowing customers to leverage the flexible cloud services around the world by 2013 for their international expansion efforts.
